Itani Mafune CA(SA), ACMA, CGMA

Itani Mafune is a Chartered Accountant (SA) and former CGMA with extensive experience across corporate finance, investment advisory, and strategic transactions in both the public and private sectors.

He completed his articles at PwC Sunninghill, where he gained broad exposure across insurance, telecommunications, logistics, manufacturing, and industrials. Following his training, Itani joined the Barclays–Absa Young Chartered Accountant Programme (YCAP), rotating within the Financial Management division for two years. He later served as the CA Training Officer for five years, where he played a key role in refreshing and elevating the bank’s CA training programme. He also held a dual role as a Senior Financial Analyst.

In 2019, he founded Shuma Business, a financial advisory and investment firm. Since inception, Itani has led the firm across a wide range of complex mandates, including fundraising, buy-side and sell-side transaction advisory, valuations, and on-balance-sheet equity investments. Shuma Business serves clients across both the private and public sectors and has delivered advisory services to institutions such as the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), SAFCOL, ATNS, and a range of private sector clients.

Most recently, Shuma Business acted as the primary transaction advisor on a leveraged buy-out involving the acquisition of nine assets from a JSE-listed entity by a local and international consortium. The firm is also currently advising and partnering on several large-scale renewable energy projects, including a 30MW solar farm in the Western Cape and a 160MW solar project in Lephalale. The firm maintains a strong pipeline of transactions with a combined net asset value in excess of R2.5 billion.

With strong local and international networks across business and government, Itani has completed the General Management Programme (GMP) at GIBS Business School and is a One Young World Global Ambassador. In 2023, he was recognised by SAICA as one of the Top 35 Chartered Accountants Under 35 and currently serves on the SAICA Regulations Working Group Committee.

Today, Itani leads a growing team of professionals with experience across Corporate Finance, Business Strategy, and Private Equity, focused on unlocking value through disciplined execution, strong partnerships, and long-term capital alignment.
