Itani Mafune CA(SA), ACMA, CGMA

Itani is a registered Chartered Accountant (CA) and Chartered Management Accountant (CMA). He completed his articles at PwC Sunninghill, where he gained exposure across various sectors, including insurance, telecoms, logistics, manufacturing, and industrials. Following this, he joined the Barclays-Absa YCAP programme, rotating within the Financial Management division for two years. He later served as the CA Training Officer for five years, during which he refreshed and elevated the bank's training programme.

Itani also held the role of senior financial analyst, overseeing the Group CFO’s scorecard. In 2019, he founded Shuma Business and has since led the team across diverse projects, including fundraising, sell-side and buy-side transactional support, and on-balance sheet equity investments. Shuma's most significant projects to date include providing buy-side valuation support for DBSA, transactional advisory on a R260m mining acquisition, fundraising for a R600m solar farm in the Western Cape and the firm currently has a pipeline of projects with a value in excess of R2bn.

With strong local and international networks in business and government, Itani has completed the GMP programme at GIBS Business School and is a One Young World Global Ambassador. In 2023, he was recognized by SAICA as one of the Top 35 Under 35 and also sits on the SAICA Regulations Working Group Committee. Currently, he leads a team of three professionals with experience in Corporate Finance, Business Strategy and Private Equity.
